Duran Duran brought the love back to late-night TV on Wednesday (April 29), with some help from Nile Rodgers.
The Rock Hall-inducted British band stopped by ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to deliver their TV debut of “Free to Love” (via Tape Modern), a funky disco throwback tune that dropped earlier this month.
“‘Free To Love’ has a simple message,” explained Nick Rhodes ahead of the performance. “There is nothing more important than freedom and love. We certainly need a lot more of both in the world right now.”
Rodgers and Duran Duran have been making musical magic together since the early 1980s, starting the global smash “The Reflex.” While the winters have marched on, Duran Duran found their groove in recent times, and fans have clamored to the one-time heart-throbs. The group was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2022; their past three albums have crashed the top 5 in the United Kingdom; and their tran-Atlantic tour this year will include a headline show at London’s Hyde Park, the scene of their summer date in 2022 which drew an estimated 70,000 Duranies.
Judging by their latest West Coast TV spot, Simon Le Bon’s vocals have aged like an expensive wine. And their performance, backed by rainbows, unicorns, and cuts from the official “Free to Love” music video, is a sure sign that DD’s live shows will be a party.
“Free To Love” has been a long time coming. Last June, Duran Duran shared an image with Nile Rodgers at Abbey Road Studios. “Stay tuned,” the social post read.
Earlier this week, the Chic founder gave his own update on their latest collaboration. “My love for Duran Duran and what our music together has always been about is the love we share for our song’s deepest meanings,” he writes. “Whatever chaos is going on outside, inside the studio we’re free to love our peace.”
The new wave legends play BeachLife Festival 2026 this Friday, May 1. The follow day, they settle in for a residency at Bleaulive at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Pan-European dates follow from June.

Amazon just upgraded one of its most beloved tech products in a major way, making it more portable and streamer-friendly than ever.
The new and improved Amazon Fire TV Stick HD was made available Wednesday, April 29, on Amazon.com. The streaming device retails for $34.99 and features changes made to the functionality and size. According to Amazon, the gadget is 30% slimmer, making it more portable than ever, and can be powered through a TV’s USB port, foregoing the use of a wall adapter utilized in older models.
This is the latest model of Amazon’s Fire TV Stick HD. According to Amazon, the new controller is 30% slimmer and can be powered through a TV’s USB port, so no need for a wall adapter.
That portability is an extremely attractive feature, especially for folks always on the go. The new model was created to fit easily into a carry-on bag or pocket. The Fire TV Stick HD’s new Direct Power feature allows users to power their device using a TV’s USB port with the included cable, working with your existing setup for less clutter and ease of use, something that was lacking in Amazon’s last models.
One of our favorite additions, which will surely take the guesswork out of streaming, is the built-in Alexa+. The pseudo companion is a generative AI-powered voice assistant that offers Fire TV Stick users a more personalized experience when it comes to watching movies or TV shows. You can ask your Alexa+ for recommendations based on your specific tastes. Like action movies? Maybe you’re into thrillers over music documentaries. Amazon claims that Alexa+ will consider your preferences, offering you suggestions for a new show to obsess over or an indie film you’ve never heard of.
Alexa+ can also be utilized to control your connected smart home devices, whether you’re dimming the lights in your living room for movie night or turning up the volume on your speakers to jam out. Don’t remember the name of that handsome actor in your favorite biopic? He’s on the tip of your tongue for sure. You can call on Alexa+ for help with that, too. In short, this is a smarter way to incorporate AI that works with you, not against you, for entertainment purposes.
Along with the built-in AI and size change, the new Fire TV Stick HD also includes advanced adaptive display settings, which are basically just accessibility features that make things such as text, menus and content easier to navigate and see on your screen.
This is the new model of Amazon’s Ember Artline TV with a matte finish to make your art screensaver more realistic. The new model also includes Alexa+, an AI helper.
The Fire TV Stick HD was also launched alongside a new Amazon Ember Artline TV for $899.99. The 55-inch TV will begin to ship on April 22 in the U.S. and Canada, and on May 7 in the U.K. and Germany. The screen is now matteified to make your artwork look like, well, artwork rather than a shiny TV screen. The TV also includes Alexa+ for hands-free control when you want to browse photos or find something to stream.

Over the years, I’ve found the best way to wow my mom on Mother’s Day is to pick up a gift that’s straight from the heart.
A personalized purchase speaks louder than something that just anyone can be gifted. It shows you listen and you care. I don’t know about your mother, but my mom’s favorite gifts I’ve given her over the years usually have three specific focuses in mind, with winner items prioritizing her comfort, enjoyment or something to beautify her body or home. A good gift should be uniquely personalized, uncomplicated and should speak to your mother’s interests. Does she like music or maybe tech? Is she artistic or more sporty? Does she like affordable or more bougie gifts?
Usually, my gifts are a mixture of all three. For example, one year I got her an electric tea kettle because she was really into drinking tea at the time, but she didn’t want to wait for water to boil. Another year, I got her a custom embroidered knitting tote so she could take her knitting stuff with her on the go. Gifting your mother the perfect gift is impossible, but you can certainly get very close by paying attention. Is she on the market for slippers? Get her slippers, but get them embroidered with her name or her favorite flower. Is she a dog mom? Get her a custom makeup pouch with your dog’s fuzzy little face on the front. A unique gift is bound to take you far. It’ll also hopefully win you points to get you that favorite child spot you’ve been vying for.
With the holiday right around the corner on May 10, now is the time to start shopping so that you don’t find yourself searching for something meaningful at the last minute. Keep reading to shop our unique picks below.
This is a hand-delivered bouquet from 1-800-Flowers. The service offers a ton of Mother’s Day-specific bouquets in unique colors and arrangements that are sure to please.
While some people might disagree, flowers have always reigned supreme in my book as one of the best Mother’s Day gifts you can give someone. Oftentimes, they can be seen as an afterthought. That’s only because the bouquets you can pick up at the store aren’t very special, or of good quality, for that matter.
A specialty bouquet from 1-800-Flowers, like this Honey Bee Buzz style, blows all other bouquets out of the water because they are crafted with care and made with the freshest blooms, thanks to local florists. These specialty arrangements can be shipped anywhere and come in sizes small, medium and large, varying in price. My mother is a huge fan of flowers, especially for Mother’s Day. She often requests hydrangeas, which 1-800-Flowers has in spades.

These Cozy Earth PJs are made of a breathable stretch knit fabric for ultimate comfort while your mom snoozes. The set comes in a multitude of styles, and it is currently 15% off for Mother’s Day.
Napping is an important part of any mom’s daily life. It keeps them sane. That’s why this set from Cozy Earth is a quintessential Mother’s Day gift because it is comfortable, cute, and practical, all things I know my mother loves. My mom is a big fan of getting PJs for Mother’s Day because she loves her naps. These are breathable and have a nice stretch, something very important to my own mom, and it also comes in a slew of styles, including funky prints and colors to reflect your mother’s unique personality.
If your mom isn’t a fan of real flowers, this is the next best thing. This little crochet companion doubles as a card and a tiny bouquet all in one.
If your mother isn’t the flowers or cards type, this crochet tulip arrangement should do the trick, since it lasts forever and it’s like cards and flowers all in one. The little faux arrangement comes with three colorful crocheted tulips stuffed into a pot with an adorable face. The pot also works as a sentimental card, thanks to a sweet message written on the body. Best of all, this little guy doubles as a companion.
This chocolate company is based in New York and features really unique options for your mom to snack on. Michelin-starred chef Gabriel Kreuther, an acclaimed pastry chef, curated the selection of flavors.
This chocolate shop is located in New York City and features the most decadent little morsels of goodness. This box includes a selection of options such as sunflower seed praline and other unique combos. Michelin-starred chef Gabriel Kreuther curates the box, so you know the flavors are going to be excellent. Even when it’s not Mother’s Day, my mom is a massive lover of all things chocolate, from bonbons to Snickers. She’d likely devour these in a day.
This Aura frame rotates images constantly, showcasing your mom’s favorite memories in a slideshow fashion. For those not so tech-savvy moms, the frame is pretty easy to use. Simply utilize the Aura app downloaded on your phone to upload pictures. Easy as that.
For the mom who could never choose just one picture of her kids, this digital frame will be a savior. It’s easy to upload new photos and have them change slowly or stay in one place. This was also another hit gift with my mom last year. She’s a very sentimental person, but not so tech-savvy. Thankfully, this Aura frame is really easy to use since you upload photos by utilizing the Aura app. My mom’s favorite photos of us are all there in a frame that rotates pictures every few minutes, some from our Hawaii trip and others from her fab girls’ trip to Paris.
This set of two speakers can be stuck to a multitude of surfaces. The tech is waterproof and extremely durable, letting your mom take her jam sessions into the tub or on a swim.
Fun fact: my mother just learned how to use speakers and headphones this year. She’s really into listening to music now, especially in the shower, although she often just props her phone up on the sink or in a precarious spot inside the shower. All this to say, she’d benefit from something like these stick-on speakers that can adhere to any surface, including bathroom walls. Most importantly, this set is waterproof, so your music-loving mom won’t have to worry about breaking the tech while soaking in a relaxing bubble bath. Be it David Bowie or Bruce Springsteen played shower-side, this is something I’ll be adding to my cart for my mom this Mother’s Day.
This is a carved wood amplifying speaker meant to look like a gramophone. This novelty item amplifies your sound in a fun way.
Another thing my mom likes, and something I love just as much, are novelty gifts. This Acoustic Gramophone Amplifying Speaker is a great example of a novelty gift done right because it is both cute and practical, since it’s shaped like a little gramophone for style points, but it is used to amplify your music. To use, you’ll want to slip your phone into the carved slot. The carved piece is said to amplify smartphone sound by roughly 7–15 decibels, thanks to natural resonance and acoustic chamber design that reverberates the sound your phone puts out.
This is a baby blue portable record player. The nostalgic design and sound quality make this a stand-out gift for mothers looking to spin some of their favorite tunes.
Give the gift of nostalgia with this adorable suitcase-style record player. If you’re looking for bonus points, make sure to include some of your mother’s favorite vinyls if she doesn’t have a collection already.
These Skullcandy earbuds double as an accessory. Available in five fun colorways, these earbuds sit in-ear comfortably and come in a fold-out case.
Available in five fun colorways, these Skullcandy earbuds offer a super-comfortable in-ear fit and amazing sound. These earbuds also double as an accessory and can be clipped onto bags or your keys. I gifted these to my mother last Mother’s Day, knowing she wasn’t super savvy with tech, but she took to it like a duck to water. My mother clipped these to her belt loop so she had her music close to her hip, ready to listen wherever she went.
Art meets music. This is a custom wall hang made to look like sound waves of your favorite chorus.
Where art meets music, this Custom Song Wall Art condenses your favorite chorus into a 24-inch wide piece that you can have forever. The custom-made piece is supposed to replicate the sound waves/audio waveform of your chosen chorus. The audio replicated into art could be from one of your mom’s favorite tunes or even a sentimental soundbite that speaks to her heart.
The most unique gift of all is something that can’t be replicated, like this three-minute song custom-made by David Morgan. The song can be about anything you’d like and will be sung and written by Morgan.
I think that the most special gift of all that you can give someone, especially your lovely mother, is a gift that cannot be replicated or recreated. On Uncommon Goods, you can get your own three-minute song written by singer/songwriter David Morgan. The song’s contents are up to you. Maybe you want to capture a funny moment like that time your mom had to shave her head bald (not speaking from experience), or maybe you want to keep it sentimental. Whatever you choose, Morgan will write it up and compose it for your mom to enjoy.
Cameo is a site where you can get short personalized messages from famous folks, including musicians. Pricing on these Cameos depends on the length and who you’re getting your video from.
Is your mom a big fan of The Real Housewives? Or maybe she’s really obsessed with NSYNC? Whatever she might be into, you can buy your mom a one-of-a-kind message from their favorite star via Cameo. The site features celebrities both big and micro, including musicians, from whom you can request a custom video. This Bink water bottle is 36 oz and comes in this adorable lavender hue. The flip cap helps prevent spills.
My mom’s water bottle is practically attached to her hip. Her current water bottle is well-loved and, because of that, it has seen better days, which is why I’d get her this Bink bottle in lavender, her favorite color. The 36oz bottle features a flip top to prevent spills and a handle for easy carrying. If your mom isn’t a lavender kind of girl, this style of Bink also comes in a slew of other colorsolors so you can pick the one that suits your mom best.
This ring was worn by Taylor Swift during a myriad of Kansas City Chiefs games she attended. The ring features a 14k gold band and a sizable garnet inlay.
The subtle but striking ring retails for $998 and is affixed with a semiprecious stone set atop a thin 14k band. The profile of the ring is subtle, while the deep, wine colored stone is a striking addition that draws the eye. The color also just so happens to mirror a certain tight end’s football team colors, what with the red and gold. Kansas City Chiefs fan or not, this ring, true to its name, can be passed on from mother to daughter for generations to come.
This is a large rolling tote in a metallic ruby hue. Hulken’s rolling totes have been used by the likes of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson and Chrissy Teigen, among others.
For moms on the go, we’d suggest something like a Hulken rolling tote. The tote is a rolling style with a handle up top if you want to carry it over the shoulder. Hulken features a slew of interesting color options to fit your mother’s specific needs. Knowing my mom, she’d probably fancy this ruby red hue with a metallic finish. If gifted to her, it’s likely my mom would use this for a quick stop at the grocery store or for running errands.

Dolly Parton can do no wrong. At least, that’s what my mother always tells me. The universally loved musician has a line of fragrances and lip products set in duos available at Walmart. The duo set features a bottle of her Scent From Above Eau De Toilette, which is scented like mandarin, blackcurrant, pear, peony blossom, lily-of-the-valley, vanilla orchid and a whole mess of other things. Fuzzy slippers are a must-have for busy moms looking to chill out. These slippers come with fun beaded adornments and a cushy composition.
Comfort is key for most mothers I know, especially those over 50. You can give the gift of both comfort and style, my favorite combo, with these fuzzy pink slippers from Wolf & Badger. The slip-on style is affixed with playful beaded brooches that depict a cocktail and a bottle of gin that further liven up the pastel pink design. If pink isn’t your mom’s thing, these slippers come in three other colorways.
This is a set of guitar-printed socks. They are an ankle-length style and a great novelty gift for the music-loving mom in your life.
Socks are another must-have item for everyone, but to make them into a great gift, a theme is key. These socks from Uncommon Goods feature a guitar print set on a black background. The socks are ankle length and retail for $14. Simple, practical and musical, just how we like it.
This is a charm that can be programmed with a custom message, playlist, audio note, photos and more. It can be activated or “unlocked” when the wearer presses the jewelry to the top of their phone.
This Vault Locket necklace’s charm can be programmed with a custom YouTube playlist, audio notes, photos, videos and a handwritten note that the wearer can “unlock” by pressing the jewelry to the top of their phone. The pendants can be changed out and pricing varies based on the pendant and chain you choose. Pendants can be bought solo to be put on an existing chain if you choose. This is a sentimental option that is disguised as your everyday piece of jewelry. I would gift this to the mom who lives far away, giving them a piece of yourself wherever they may go.
This is a cutting board shaped like a record that can be customized with band names, family names or the name of your mom’s favorite song. The cutting board also comes with a sturdy display stand.
If cooking and music are your mom’s thing, consider this personalized cutting board shaped like a record. Upon ordering, you can customize your record cutting board’s center label with a band and album name of your choosing, something that means a lot to your mom. For mine, it would be something Bruce Springsteen-related, but a family name or favorite track could work just fine. The cutting board also comes with a stand, allowing your mom to display the custom piece with pride.

The box can be customized down to the wood used, text engraved on the top and interior and the song used. Turn any photo into an interactive puzzle with Snapfish. This 500-piece option is currently 70% off on the brand’s website.
My mom is a puzzle fiend. When she’s not sitting knitting hats, my mom is likely working on a puzzle until her back hurts. This year, I gifted my mom this 500-piece custom puzzle from Snapfish, a gift I know she’s going to be obsessed with. All you need to do is upload a photo to the website (I chose a family portrait) and choose the size of puzzle you want. The photo will be transformed into a puzzle for your mom to enjoy. I’m thinking my mom will likely glue this puzzle together so she can frame it.

You can customize the magnet with a meaningful photo and a special song. After sending the seller the song name and artist, your custom magnet should be loaded up with your chosen tune. You can hit the play button on the magnet to make your song play, while your chosen photo is displayed in the background.

The Bartesian is a cocktail-making machine that utilizes accompanying flavor pods. You fill up the sides with alcohol of your choosing, pop in a pod and wait until your mixed drink comes out
While you may not be able to hire your mom a mixologist to hang around at the house, you can definitely get her the next best thing. This machine allows you to pre-load spirits in pretty glass containers and then make perfectly portioned cocktails using little pods. One of my friends gifted this to her mother, and she was influenced to buy one for herself. Now every time I’m craving a cocktail after a long, hard day, I pop over to her house for a mixed beverage made with little to no effort.
Ember is a temperature-controlled smart mug. The mug keeps your drinks at their ideal temp for hours on end.
Busy moms don’t really have time to sip a nice, warm and cozy beverage slowly, especially if you’re a mom with young kids. They’ll always end up cold once you get around to drinking them. With an Ember in their arsenal, you can keep your drinks to the temperature of your liking for hours on end. The smart mug features a heating component on the bottom that keeps your beverage at a steady temperature. The mug also has an auto-sleep mode that triggers when the mug is empty or after roughly two hours of inactivity to conserve battery life and keep you and your loved ones safe.

American Idol entered its Taylor Swift era on Sunday night (April 27), with the remaining contestants taking on songs from Taylor Swift’s catalog for the show’s first episode dedicated entirely to the pop superstar.
The theme night featured seven contestants performing tracks spanning Swift’s career, from early country cuts like “Tim McGraw” and “Fearless” to later fan favorites including “Cardigan,” “Exile” and “Lover.”
Among the night’s performances, Keyla Richardson drew particular attention for her take on “Lover,” reworking the song into something that even guest judge Nikki Glaser said felt entirely new.
“I don’t even recognize that song!” Glaser said following the performance, praising Richardson for bringing a different interpretation to the track.
Judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood echoed that sentiment throughout the episode, emphasizing the challenge of performing Swift’s material — particularly songs so closely tied to her distinctive storytelling and vocal style.
Other performances included Chris Tungseth’s version of “Exile,” which Bryan called one of his favorite performances from the singer so far, and Jordan McCullough’s take on “Tim McGraw.”
Swift herself did not appear during the episode, though host Ryan Seacrest noted that dancers from her Eras Tour were part of the broadcast.
Originally released in 2019, Lover debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming Taylor Swift’s sixth chart-topping album. The set spawned multiple hits, including “Lover,” which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The episode highlighted both the breadth of Swift’s catalog and the difficulty contestants face in reinterpreting it. By this stage of the competition, versatility has become a key differentiator, with contestants needing to balance familiarity with originality in order to stand out.

Since the release of the 2026 Michael movie, Michael Jackson fans have been insatiable for more content on the “King of Pop.”
The biopic debuted in theaters on Friday (April 24), and was a massive success at the box office, bringing in a record-breaking $97 million domestic opening and a global launch of $217.4 million, according to Sunday estimates, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The success speaks to the lasting power Jackson has had on the world of music and pop culture, despite his passing in 2009. That’s around 16 years without the “Beat It” singer, and yet, his legacy prevails.
The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, had the biggest opening weekend ever for a music biopic. Jackson’s life and career are the major draw of the film, but another selling point was the casting, specifically of Michael, who is played by his nephew Jaafar Jackson (son of Jermaine Jackson).
It’s an interesting choice, and one that likely aided in the film’s success, given his portrayal has been applauded by many in the Jackson family. “I was flabbergasted. I have to tell you that you think it’s Mike,” MJ’s sister La Toya Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter of the portrayal. “You forget it’s Jaafar; you think it’s Michael.”
If you’re looking for even more Jackson content, below, we’ve included where you can watch a few other documentaries about him for free, along with a few books.

Lifelong fans of Jackson might remember this specific moment where he’d been filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984. The star’s hair caught on fire during the shooting, causing second- and third-degree burns to his scalp. Nia Long has been name-dropped a ton by rappers during her TV and film career, thanks to being associated with classics including Boyz n the Hood, Friday and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Everyone from Phife Dawg to FERG to Juicy J to Webbie to Chingy to Lil Wayne to Ghostface Killah have all mentioned her in their music in one way or another. However, the most notable mention has to be attributed to Ye (formerly Kanye West) on the song “Touch the Sky,” in which he raps, “Couldn’t keep it at home, thought I needed a Nia Long.”
The actress, who also starred in the music video alongside Tracie Ellis Ross, recently sat down with BlackTree TV to promote her latest role as Michael Jackson‘s mother, Katherine Jackson, in the biopic Michael and was asked what her favorite lyric about her was.
“I’m going to go with Kanye’s because I was in that video,” she said. “That video was iconic. I just think Kanye is such a visionary with his music, his visuals. He’s a very talented artist, so I’mma go with that one.”
Elsewhere in the interview, she was asked what she would like to see in a Michael sequel (if it ever happens), and she said that she hopes they tackle how his relationship changed with his mother as he became “more independent in his manhood and how he works through certain challenges; personal and professionally.”

Michael now also holds the biggest domestic opening of all time for a biopic, surpassing Oppenheimer ($80 million), not adjusted for inflation, according to THR.
“This record-breaking performance is a testament to the incredible filmmaking team of producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, an amazing cast led by Jaafar Jackson’s singular performance, our world-class partners at Universal, the cooperation and support of the Michael Jackson Estate, and our tireless and exceptionally talented Lionsgate team,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement.

Michael is the first installment of a planned two-part biopic.
Foo Fighters are booked as musical guest on this weekend’s SNL UK, but fans didn’t have to wait for the band’s live performance to air for their first Dave Grohl spotting of the night.
For Bridgerton and Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan’s turn hosting Saturday night’s (April 25) episode of the original SNL spinoff, an American SNL veteran popped in — to encourage the Irish actress to make some mischief while the cameras are rolling during the program’s live broadcast. Viewers in the United States can catch a clip of her monologue below from broadcaster Sky TV.
After making a monologue joke about consuming “a staggering amount of cocaine” to recreate “the magic of original 1970s SNL,” Coughlan says in the video, “But look, it’s an honor to be hosting. It’s sort of feels like I manifested it somehow. It’s almost like this place is like, magic.”
“That’s because it is,” announces Jimmy Fallon, appearing on stage out of the blue to impart “the biggest secret of SNL” to Saturday’s host.
“Don’t tell anyone, but … it’s live,” Fallon says. “It’s actually live. You can do whatever you want. You can go wherever you want. You’re the host. They don’t stop you!”
And so the pair takes a backstage stroll that has Coughlan feeling the power that comes with taking control. Run-ins with cast members ensue, but it’s a certain rock musician that stops her in her tracks.
“Jimmy. Jimmy. It’s Dave Grohl,” Coughlan says in a hushed tone upon spotting the Foo Fighters vocalist, to which Fallon suggests, “You should ask him to be best friends — because we’re live. He has to say yes.”
Coughlan shoots her shot. Sure enough, Grohl plays the yes man: “Sure, why not?” he replies. The new besties share a high five and heart hands.
“That was incredible!” Coughlan exclaims.
Watch Coughlan’s SNL monologue, featuring Jimmy Fallon plus a cameo from Dave Grohl, in the video below uploaded to the official SNK UK YouTube channel. She’s currently one of the stars in the family film The Magic Faraway Tree, now playing in the U.K. and set for release in the U.S. in August.
