Teddy Swims has never stayed in one lane, and at this point, that’s less a career strategy than the reason he keeps showing up in places that don’t always seem obvious at first glance. His voice carries the grit of soul, the pull of R&B and the kind of storytelling that increasingly resonates with country audiences, which is exactly why his presence at Stagecoach this year felt less like a surprise and more like a signal of where things are headed.

Country’s current surge isn’t just about chart positions — it’s about how far the genre has stretched. Artists who move between sounds, like Post Malone and Jelly Roll, are finding just as much traction with festival crowds as traditional headliners, and Swims sits comfortably in that in-between space. When asked whether topping the Billboard Hot 100 and playing massive festivals changes how he sees himself, his answer stays close to home.

“To me, I want to be the best,” he told Billboard during Stagecoach last month. “And to my son, I want him to think I’m cool. And so it’s more just about trying to be proud of me.”

Swims had another special guest with him during his Stagecoach performance — his dad was there to watch him perform, a moment that made the scale of everything feel a little more grounded. As the singer explains, it wasn’t about milestones or metrics but rather a full-circle moment that has sharpened his focus on what success actually looks like beyond the charts.

“I think one day I hope that my son, maybe, hopefully, will want to do this,” he says. “If not, I’m supporting whatever he wants to do. But my dad watching me, how proud he is… how cool would that be one day to be like, ‘I’m so proud of my son too.’ And he gets to watch me do this and he’s proud of his dad.”

That same mix of intimacy and scale showed up just steps from the Mane Stage inside Club Magenta, a VIP section sponsored by T-Mobile and reserved exclusively for Magenta Status customers. A private bar, shaded seating, Free 5G Wifi and built-in charging stations weren’t just conveniences, they extended the experience, keeping fans connected to the headliner stage without needing to leave it.

Swims’ takeover of the space on Day Two made Club Magenta even more interactive. Signature drinks, airbrush tattoos and a custom cowboy hat station gave Magenta Status members an even more exclusive experience beyond the music at Stagecoach.

Access, however, was limited to T-Mobile customers with Magenta Status, turning Club Magenta into a members-only vantage point at the heart of the Mane Stage.

Beyond Stagecoach, Magenta Status functions as an ongoing layer of perks rather than a one-off festival upgrade, including streaming benefits, travel discounts, and discounted tickets for live events ranging from festivals to sports. If you’re considering a switch, they have quite the incentive: T-Mobile will cover up to $800 of a previous provider’s bill and, to sweeten the deal, it takes less that 15-minutes.

Club Magenta is headed next to Lollapalooza, bringing the same access-driven setup to a different crowd. For fans looking to take advantage, signing up for T-Mobile and accessing Magenta Status ahead of time is the move.

Olivia Rodrigo hosted SNL for the first time and starred in seven sketches that made it to air Saturday night (May 2) in an episode that had her pulling double duty as musical guest. Following a political cold open and Rodrigo’s monologue, the show launched with a terrifically absurd sketch that set the tone for an evening of quirky comedy.

SNL‘s writers played on Rodrigo’s musicality this week: The You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love artist sang in two top sketches, as well as in her monologue. (This was all in addition to her first televised live performance of the giddy new single “Drop Dead” and her debut of the emotionally turbulent ballad “Begged“).

Related

Throughout the episode, Rodrigo portrayed a weird assortment of roles including soap opera villain, human teen trapped in an zoo exhibit on Bug Planet, girl obsessed with her ex at a friend’s birthday, lava cake maker blissfully unaware of how her goods look, main character in an Isley Brothers “Busted” parody, witness of the next greatest white Rasta artist, and TikToker with an unexpected employer. (Dress rehearsal attendees report on Reddit that the production also tested at least two more sketches with Rodrigo, one on situationships and another that had her as a guest on a Kenan Thompson-hosted daytime talk show. At press time, no cut-for-time sketches have been made available online.)

Studio 8H brings out nerves in even the best performers. Naturally delivering late rewrites via cue card isn’t an everyday skill, unless you’re full-time cast.

Rodrigo’s previous TV work — from little girl in an Old Navy commercial to Disney Channel series regular — and the stage command she’s developed over countless nights on tour as a musician — served her quite well in preparing for the chaos of Saturday Night Live. Or “Saturday Night Liv,” as she quipped on Instragram post-show.

The night was a milestone moment for Rodrigo, who’d only performed as musical guest before (twice, in 2021 and 2023).

In fact, probably still abuzz from the afterparty, on Sunday she called it the “best night of my mf life!!!! such a dream come true!!!” She thanked Lorne Michaels and the SNL team in her social update — “for being so welcoming and brilliant. will remember this forever!!!!”

Here’s a ranking of every sketch Rodrigo was in on the show that aired Saturday night. Watch all seven sketches from the May 2 episode of SNL below.

Twenty years after the original, the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada made a splash in its first weekend in theaters. Driven largely by women, The Devil Wears Prada 2 earned $77 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $156.6 million internationally, according to studio estimates Sunday (May 3). It easily topped the box office and bumped Michael to second place, though the musical biopic held well in its second weekend, falling only 44%.

The Walt Disney Co.’s 20th Century Studios opened The Devil Wears Prada 2 in 4,150 locations in North America. Women made up about 76% of the ticket buyers, according to PostTrak exit polls; 74% said they would “definitely recommend” the movie to friends. Critics were a bit mixed on the sequel, which finds Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs working once more for Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly at the fictional Runway magazine in a much-depleted media landscape.

The movie cost a reported $100 million to produce — a significant boost from the first movie’s $35 million production budget. But as filmmaker David Frankel told The Associated Press recently, “As it turns out, you know, by the time you finish paying all the biggest movie stars in the world, you still end up with basically the same budget for making the movie as we did the first one.”

Stars Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci have been on a fashion-forward global publicity blitz for weeks, with glamorous stops in Tokyo, London and New York. Even Anna Wintour, the inspiration for the Prada-clad devil, has been involved this time, appearing with Hathaway on the Oscars stage and with Streep on the cover of Vogue.

The first movie opened in June 2006 and would go on to earn over $326 million worldwide, not adjusted for inflation. And perhaps more importantly, it firmly became part of the culture thanks in part to its ever-quotable likes (“gird your loins,” “groundbreaking,” “that’s all”). Legacy sequels are never a sure thing, but this time anticipation was high: According to Nielsen, streaming viewership for The Devil Wears Prada was up 428% from March 2026 to April 2026.

Second place went to Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, which made $54 million in its second weekend in North America, where it’s playing on 3,955 screens. Its running worldwide total is already $423.9 million. Universal Pictures is handling the international release.

“This is on the great end of what we had speculated might happen, but we were very confident that we were going to have a great hold even with the assumption that Prada would do a lot of business,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson. “The conventional wisdom that a new giant movie can knock out a movie that has planted itself is constantly proven inaccurate.”

This weekend marks the start of Hollywood’s summer movie season, a crucial 18-week corridor that runs through Labor Day and often accounts for around 40% of the annual box office. There are often Marvel blockbusters programmed as the season’s kickoff, but the combined power of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael wasn’t a shabby substitute.

“This is a really solid weekend,” said Paul Dergarabedian, the head of marketplace trends for Comscore. “It’s this irresistible combination that more than makes up for the fact that there’s not a Marvel movie to kick off the summer movie season.”

Prada alone actually did better business than last year’s summer kickoff Marvel movie, Thunderbolts. There were several other new films in theaters this weekend as well, including the Adam Scott-led horror movie Hokum, Andy Serkis’s animated adaptation of Animal Farm and the Aaron Eckhart- and Ben Kingsley-led survival movie Deep Water.

They all opened behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which made $12.1 million in its fifth weekend, and Project Hail Mary, which made $8.6 million in its seventh weekend. Neon’s Hokum led the newcomers with $6.4 million, rounding out the top five, followed by the very poorly reviewed Animal Farm with $3.4 million. Deep Water opened to $2.2 million.

In the top four movies, Dergarabedian has noticed a trend: “Over the past couple of months, moviegoers have really embraced pure, escapist entertainment,” he said.

The annual box office is currently running about 14% up from last year, with about $2.8 billion in domestic ticket sales to date.

Debbie Harry made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on Saturday night (May 2), emerging from the wings to introduce Olivia Rodrigo‘s performance of new single “drop dead” — giving the pop star a rock ‘n’ roll co-sign in front of a live Studio 8H audience.

The Blondie frontwoman’s cameo came as Rodrigo pulled double duty on the show, serving as both host and musical guest for the first time.

Harry introduced Rodrigo’s first musical performance of the night, which saw the singer-songwriter perform “drop dead” in an airy green and pink dress, rocking out to the boisterous, energetic track. The single — released April 17 — debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Rodrigo’s fourth chart-topper.

Harry’s appearance was one of several surprise cameos on the night. Later in the episode, Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie introduced Rodrigo’s second performance, the previously unreleased ballad “begged,” while Aziz Ansari also stopped by to skewer FBI director Kash Patel in the cold open.

Rodrigo opened the show with a monologue that revisited her Disney Channel beginnings on Bizaardvark — including a jab at former co-star Jake Paul — and included a musical parody of her breakout hit “drivers license,” reworked into a story about getting a Real ID at the DMV.

Harry and Blondie pioneered the new wave scene from 1974 onward, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. The band has sold over 40 million records worldwide and announced last year that a new album, High Noon, would arrive in spring 2026. The pairing of Harry and Rodrigo carried a clear symbolic weight — both artists having defined their respective generations’ idea of guitar-driven pop with an edge.

Rodrigo has appeared on SNL twice before, as musical guest in May 2021 promoting debut album Sour and in December 2023 behind Guts. Saturday’s episode marked her first time hosting. Her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, produced by longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, is due June 12.

Olivia Rodrigo pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live on Saturday night (May 2).making her hosting debut while also serving as musical guest — debuting two tracks from her upcoming third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, due June 12.

Rodrigo opened the show with a monologue that revisited her Disney Channel beginnings on Bizaardvark — including a jab at former co-star Jake Paul — and included a musical parody of her breakout hit “drivers license,” reworked into a story about getting a Real ID at the DMV.

For her first musical performance of the night, rock legend Debbie Harry of Blondie introduced Rodrigo’s energetic performance of “drop dead,” the lead single from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which was released April 17. The track has already become her fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Then, Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie introduced Rodrigo’s second number — the mournful ballad “begged,” a previously unreleased track from the album. Rodrigo performed the song seated on a swing, a visual that mirrors the cover art for the new album, which features her upside-down on a swing.

The episode marks Rodrigo’s third overall appearance on SNL but her first time hosting. She previously appeared as musical guest in May 2021, performing songs from Sour, and again in December 2023 promoting Guts.

Rodrigo has also recently announced The Unraveled Tour, a new concert series taking her through the U.S., Canada and several European countries. She also made a surprise appearance at Coachella earlier this month, joining Addison Rae onstage to debut “drop dead” live for the first time.

Rodrigo first broke through in 2021 with debut album Sour, followed by 2023’s Guts, quickly becoming one of pop’s most commercially dominant young artists, earning three Grammy Awards and Album of the Year nominations for both records. “drivers license” spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release in 2021. You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love arrives June 12.

Earlier in the episode, Rodrigo performed “Drop Dead,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her fourth chart-topper — all of which have opened at the summit.

Her appearance marked her third time on Saturday Night Live, and her first time serving as both host and musical guest in a single episode.

Madonna and Anna Wintour are teaming up to promote the pop icon’s upcoming album.

The superstar singer and Vogue global editorial director appear together in a teaser for Madonna’s Confessions II, which is screening in theaters ahead of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The 30-second clip opens with Madonna’s 1990 hit “Vogue” playing in the background as the two sit side by side as a fashion show. The footage appears to be from when the pair were seated together at the Dolce & Gabbana Women’s Fall/Winter 2026 Fashion Show in Milan on Feb. 28.

In video that appears to be manipulated, Madonna and Wintour are seen watching the runway when Wintour says, “I can’t believe they’re still playing ‘Vogue.’ Why?” Madonna replies, “Because they miss me,” to which the fashion icon responds, “I like ‘Vogue,’ but surely you have something new.” The singer then says, “As a matter of fact, I do. I have a confession,” as she leans over and whispers into Wintour’s ear.

The music then transitions to “Bring Your Love,” her newly released collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter.

Lyrics from the club track flash across the screen alongside imagery from Confessions II (due July 3), the follow-up to Madonna’s 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. “Bring Your Love” serves as the lead single from the album, and the song got its premiere with Carpenter during the second weekend of Coachella on April 17.

Billboard has reached out to Madonna’s representatives for further details about the theater promo.

The Devil Wears Prada 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit, brings back Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The comedy opened wide in theaters Friday (May 1).
